I provide therapy in Kelowna for trauma, relationship concerns, anxiety, and neurodivergence (Autism & ADHD). I help adults, teens, and couples work through painful memories, understand unhelpful patterns, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others.

Who I Work With

I work with people who are struggling with:

  • painful memories that still feel heavy
  • negative beliefs about themselves
  • hurts from past relationships
  • current relationship challenges
  • anxiety, shame, burnout, or disconnection
  • identity and self-confidence
  • understanding themselves

My Approach

Together, we explore how your past experiences, relationships, and environment may be shaping what you are going through today. We also focus on what matters most to you and the kind of life and relationships you want to build.

I use EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gottman Couples Therapy, mindfulness, and practical tools to help you process painful memories, feel more grounded, set boundaries, communicate more honestly, and build trust in yourself. I tailor my approach to meet you where you are at, whether you are bringing laughter, tears, or silence. My goal is to offer a warm, supportive space where you feel safe, understood, and able to show up as yourself.

I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with a Master of Social Work degree from UBC Okanagan and an undergraduate degree in psychology. I also bring experience from my work in the non-profit sector.

Luke comes from a background of Social Work and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Registered Social Worker (RSW). He focuses on helping clients discover what it means for them to live authentically, and what is holding them back from doing so. His journey with mental health challenges has fueled his passion for helping others navigate paths toward their healing and self-discovery. He understands the deep complexities and emotional struggles we encounter while striving to create the life we want. “Healing” is nonlinear and means something different for everyone. This is why Luke embraces tenets of narrative therapy as his favorite tool in counselling because the focus is on one’s individual story. Through this approach, he collaborates with clients to explore and evaluate their personal stories and values, offering new perspectives and empowering them to rewrite their narratives in a way that promotes growth, stability, and self-compassion.

I am a student therapist completing my practicum at Next Step Counselling as part of the Master of Social Work program at the University of British Columbia. I work under the direct supervision of Clinic Director, Katelyn Schouten. I also hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology and have experience supporting youth and their families in the non-profit sector.

I welcome youth and adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, stress, burnout, perfectionism, self-esteem, body image, emotional regulation, life transitions, and relationship challenges. I am passionate about meeting clients where they are at, fostering their strengths, and creating space for them to feel heard, seen, and understood.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and strengths-based. I draw from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), while also working from a trauma-informed lens. I tailor each session to fit your unique needs and goals.

I understand that starting counselling can feel difficult or even overwhelming. You may feel stuck, unsure where to begin, or wonder if things could be different. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences, build self-awareness, and develop tools to move forward in ways that feel meaningful to you.

In addition to counselling, I am a competitive dance coach for children and teens. This role has given me insight into challenges related to performance, comparison, self-talk, and realistic goal-setting, as well as the importance of building supportive, trusting relationships. Outside of work, I enjoy reading fiction, playing pickleball, and crafting!

Getting started in therapy, with the goal of making a positive change in your life, can possibly bring up many thoughts and feelings; therapy may seem daunting, scary, exciting, embarrassing, hopeful, and more. I’m dedicated to providing an open, non-judgemental space to explore what brings you to therapy and how therapy can be uniquely helpful to you. I believe we can work together as a team, with both of our experiences, wisdom, and skills to make the changes you’re wanting to see in your life, your mind and your body.

With close to a decade of counselling experience, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many different individuals, couples and families both individually and in group settings. I bring a history of working within the community mental health system, working with clients diagnosed with OCD, borderline personality disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, depression, as well as substance use concerns. I’ve often had the privilege of witnessing incredible changes that are possible within relationships, workplaces, parenting, self-esteem, mood, and overall wellness.

While I enjoy working with many different individuals, I have a passion for supporting mothers/birthers through the many ups and downs of the perinatal experience. After my own personal experience of becoming a mother, including times of grief and loss, I have recommitted to this very important work of compassionately supporting clients through some of the most challenging periods of their lives.

Katelyn works with adults and teens navigating anxiety, ADHD, people-pleasing patterns, and trauma. She supports clients in better understanding themselves, breaking unhelpful patterns, and developing new ways of showing up in their lives.

She offers a warm, non-judgmental space where clients can show up fully themselves — messy, complicated, funny, and human. Her work is grounded in a person-centred and strengths-based approach, and therapy is tailored to each client’s goals, learning style, and hopes for the work.

Katelyn draws from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Sessions may focus on increasing self-understanding, processing past experiences, and building practical tools that support meaningful, sustainable change in everyday life.

Outside of counselling, Katelyn enjoys having a few too many hobbies, including reading, hiking, learning music, and creative projects. She also brings her lived experience with anxiety and ADHD into her work, which informs her understanding of how complex and non-linear change can be.

I work with adults, teens, athletes, and high-achievers navigating anxiety, perfectionism, disordered eating, body image challenges, life transitions, and burnout.

I believe that when we’re given the space to explore our inner world and past experiences, we can better understand the patterns, beliefs, and protective strategies that have shaped our story. Together, we’ll get curious about the thoughts, emotions, and parts that influence how you move through the world. Through greater self-awareness and self-compassion, we can explore ways to create a life that feels more authentic, flexible, and aligned with who you are and how you want to live.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that healing happens through connection, safety, and having a space where you can show up unapologetically as you are. With a background in Health and Exercise Sciences and competitive sport, I also view movement and nervous system regulation as a valuable tool for mental health and holistic well-being, and I often integrate this knowledge into my practice.

For disordered eating and body image support, I support clients in healing their relationship with food, movement, and their bodies through a non-diet and health at every size lens. As someone who has gone through eating disorder recovery myself, I understand the shame, fear of judgment, and emotional challenges that often arise throughout the recovery process. I also recognize how challenges with food, body image, and exercise are often intertwined with trauma, perfectionism, OCD, sport, and the influence of diet culture. With compassion and curiosity, I help clients untangle these patterns and move toward a more peaceful and trusting relationship with themselves.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, disordered eating, low self-esteem, or feeling burnt out and emotionally disconnected, you don’t have to walk this path alone. I offer in-person counselling in Kelowna and virtual sessions across British Columbia! If you’re curious about working together, I invite you to book a free 15-minute consultation call or email me at maddy.nextstep@gmail.com.

Outside of counselling, I’m also a movement instructor, registered kinesiologist, and trail runner. My love for community movement, connection, and holistic well-being is at the heart of my everyday life!

I offer therapy in Kelowna for individuals and couples navigating anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, and neurodiversity. You might be feeling stuck in cycles of worry, intrusive thoughts, or constant overthinking - even when part of you knows things are okay. Anxiety and OCD can make it hard to trust yourself, your thoughts, or your decisions, and can leave you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected from the life you want to be living.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), and my approach is calm, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity, compassion, and respect for your pace. Rather than rushing to “fix” things, we work together to understand what’s keeping you stuck and to build skills that feel realistic and supportive for your life.

Therapy with me is meant to feel human, steady, and approachable. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting - if anxiety, OCD, or past experiences have been taking up a lot of space, reaching out can be a meaningful first step. I aim to offer a space where you feel heard, supported, and met with care as we explore what might help you move forward.

Outside of the therapy room, you’ll usually find me with an iced vanilla oat latte, spending time outdoors, or at home with my dog and cat.

At the heart of my approach is the belief that healing happens through connection—with ourselves, with others, and within the therapeutic relationship. It would be my honor to walk alongside you and collaborate with you as you build the life you desire and focus on what matters most to you.

I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel safe to explore, reflect, and grow. Together, we can gently uncover the roots of what’s happening and move toward greater self-understanding and meaningful change. I want you to feel truly seen, heard, and valued in our work together.

My approach is also body-centered, recognizing the wisdom of the nervous system and how important it is to feel safe in our bodies in order to do meaningful inner work. I tailor my work to each individual, knowing that healing is not one-size-fits-all—what matters most is what works for you.

Through my experience supporting people who have lived through sexual trauma and intimate partner violence, I’ve learned the importance of a trauma-informed approach. This means we always go at your pace and what feels right and safe for you.

It’s deeply important to me to work in a way that honors your lived experience, your identity, and your culture. I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse communities and remain committed to cultural humility, openness, and respect in every relationship.

Above all, I want you to feel empowered—free to live your life on your own terms, in your own authenticity. You don’t have to do it alone, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

At the heart of my approach is the belief that healing happens through connection—with ourselves,... Read More

Britney is a Somatic Experiencing Touch Therapist and Holistic Nutritionist whose work is grounded in the belief that the body holds the wisdom – and the capacity – to heal. She believes that symptoms are not problems to be fixed, but signals from the nervous system calling for safety, connection and regulation. Her practice centres on helping clients reconnect with their bodies, so that they can begin to gently release stored stress and trauma to support long term healing from the inside out.

Her journey into this work began with personal loss. After the sudden death of her husband, she experienced profound grief and trauma that traditional approaches couldn’t fully reach. Somatic Experiencing helped her reconnect with a sense of safety and aliveness in her body – and it changed the course of both her healing and her career.

Before becoming a somatic practitioner, Britney worked as a Holistic Nutritionist specializing in hormonal health. Over time, she began to see that many of her clients’ physical symptoms – fatigue, burnout, unexplained weight gain/weightloss resistance, hormonal disruption and mood imbalances – were rooted in chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation. Her personal healing confirmed what she had started to sense professionally: that true wellness doesn’t happen by managing symptoms alone, but by healing the deeper patterns underneath them.

Britney brings deep compassion, curiosity and respect to her work. She honours each client’s pace and story and believes that healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken, but about reconnecting with what’s already whole.

Please note, that I do not offer direct billing. However, some insurance plans may cover services provided by a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN). Please check with your provider to see if RHN services are eligible under your plan.

I am a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology student currently completing my practicum and working under the clinical supervision of Katie Harling. My approach is humanistic and strengths-based, focusing on your existing capacities and resources. I aim to always lead with warmth and openness, helping support comfort and safety as we work together. Sharing what you are going through can feel deeply vulnerable, and we’ll go at a pace that honours your comfort and readiness. Together, we can go beyond the surface to connect with the body, core emotions, and explore the nuanced layers of life’s challenges. I am committed to creating a space where you feel seen and heard, with empathy and care. I have a performance background, which gives me insight into the pressures of high-performance environments, often linked to perfectionism and people-pleasing. I also have years of experience in community music settings, singing and connecting with young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, as well as older adults in end-of-life care. I believe deeply in the therapeutic process, and the power of connecting with ourselves and others. If you think I might be the right fit for you, I’d love to connect!

“Grow through what you go through”

Alisha likes to call herself a “WHY” therapist. She believes that clients grow through their experiences starting from their “roots” (or their childhood). Alisha believes that growing through experiences that may have stemmed from traumatic events in life or maladaptive ways of being, are the pinnacle of a therapeutic experience. She is here to guide you on your journey to self-actualization and improved mental health.

Alisha brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her practice. Alisha holds a Bachelor of Arts with an Honours in Psychology from the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus as well as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Alisha is a published author in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships where her work focused on mobile communication in romantic relationships. Since her work in her undergraduate degree,

Alisha has been working the front line at her local crisis line, working in her local youth shelter, and is currently employed with an organization that works with people recovering from addictions. Alisha has been working in the mental health field since 2017, during which she has been attending school to become a certified clinical counsellor.

Alisha is registered with the British Columbia Governing Body (BCACC) and has years of experience to support her work. Alisha’s experience working with vulnerable populations has taught her the compassion and non-judgement needed to support those with their mental health. While the majority of Alisha’s career has centred around working with youth and young adult populations, she is open to working with all populations. Alisha specializes in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and substance use, but she also enjoys working through any topic that is important to a person’s story. While Alisha uses a psychodynamic approach as her foundation for counselling (the “why” approach), she integrates other forms of therapy best suited to her client’s needs. Some of these approaches include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).

Through personal experience with counselling and supporting others with their mental health, Alisha has developed a passion for the field. When she is not counselling, you can find Alisha at your local coffee shop reading a book or outside enjoying the sunshine.
